Mirissa Beach is a curved bay of golden sand on Sri Lanka's south coast, backed by guesthouses, cafés and beach bars. The middle of the bay is the busiest and best for swimming in season; walk east for quieter sand. In the evening, restaurants set tables on the sand and display the day's catch.

Tips

Swim in the middle of the bay and stay out when red flags are up. Rip currents are strong during the southwest monsoon (roughly May to October).
