historic site · Trincomalee
Fort Frederick sits on the Trincomalee headland on the road up to Koneswaram Temple. The Portuguese fortified the site in the 1620s, the Dutch rebuilt it, and the British gave it its name. It is still an army base, so most of the interior is off limits, but the gate, walls and road to Swami Rock are open to visitors. Spotted deer graze inside.
